The whole point of the game is social interaction. You have 6 friends, whom you are now competing against. And in order to win, you will need to betray your friends, but at the same time build up their trust.
And along the way, you will need to make choices that will affect the gameplay, and the view of the others against you. You can, if you play it good, make your competitors fall in love with you. Once that happens, you have almost complete control over them.
It looks weird, but it will hook you straight in when you learn the controls (which are incredibly simple) and learn the combat system - which is basically paper, scissors, rock

Maybe you choose Easy and Short battle
The game is over, when one of the characters have a full set of Auras. Meaning 8 in each of the 3 categories:
With a short battle, each acolyte is only lacking 2 auras to complete his or hers set. Thus you can win the game in 2 nights - if you are lucky. And Easy mode helps you being lucky
The whole point of the game, is to complete the auras, and for this you need to research the different aura counts of your competitors. This is so that you are maximum prepared for the night-battles.
Each morning you wake up knowing the amount of one type of aura in each character, and to figure out the rest you will have to make deals. And making a deal is considered backstabbing - so you have to choose carefully who you want information about, and who you ask for this information.
This whole thing is worsened when you realize that you cannot lie in the game. If someone accuses you of treason, you can't say you didn't. None of the players can lie, so remember to accuse people of treason whenever you can, and also ask if someone has backstabbed you. You find out who your friends are, and who's auras you want to examine, that way.

I think it was hard and medium length, actually. Oh well, I'll just have to try again, then. I do hope betraying doesn't come to me as naturally as that...
Edit: Nope, I win no matter what settings I choose. I am a born traitor.
