Yup. My rule of thumb is to go deeper when I get bored. I tend to spend far too long *spoiler*
looking for the Phial of Galadriel artifact on level 1 though (unless I'm a vampire of course). EDIT: It's worth noting here that artifacts can appear at lower levels that their normal ones, particularly as drops by unique monsters and random quest monsters (identified by the "You see an inscription on the floor *more* This level is guarded by xx xxxxxs" or "You find a scroll with the following message: *more* This level is guarded by..." messages).
As far as the key bindings thing is concerned, I'm not sure. Typing '?' brings up the helpfile - look under "ZangbandTK documentation>Zangband Commands".
I might as well make a list though:
Numkeys - move in direction
Arrow keys - Run in direction (good for retracing your steps along corridors)
> - descend stairs
< - ascend stairs
o - open (door/chest etc)
U - use activated ability/power (inherent ones due to race/class/mutations)
T - tunnel
s - search (for doors/traps)
S - activate search mode*
l - look
L - look in direction (effectively scrolls map)
z - zap rod (rods of trap/monster detection are worth having on you)
a - aim wand
u - use staff
A - activate artifact ability
r - read scroll
m - cast spell
p - pickup object
d - drop item
f - fire missile (arrow/bolt/pebble etc).
E - eat item
e/i - open inventory window
C - character window
R - rest (defaults to 'as needed')
Ctrl-F - repeat level feeling (VERY handy if you missed it or when you load a game)
Ctrl-Q - Knowledge window (Incl. Quest information, Monster and Item knowledge etc).
Q - Commit suicide (Confirmation prompt displayed. Useful to pass knowledge on).
M/click on minimap - map view (click to return, mouseover zooms in minimap window)
ESC - cancel current cmd
j - jam spike (jams doors)
B - bash
b - read book
p - command pet
0(zero) - repeat (enter numerical value for no. of times, then a command)
D - disarm trap
~ - Knowledge window
5 - stand still (acts as if you'd entered the square)
Ctrl-X - Quit with save
w - wear/wield item
t - take off item
s (in shop) - sell item
b (in shop) - buy item
If asked for a target, * lets you select one and . or 5 repeats last target (useful if an enemy isn't in a compass direction from you)
* I think this automatically does a search whenever you move, so each move is 2 actions and your food level etc decreases faster, poison gets you twice but runs out faster obviously and so on. It's only really useful if you have a good searching skill - otherwise just use s when you think there's something to find (secret doors in particular)
Ask me for others and I'll add them.
There's likely to be more info SOMEWHERE on the 'net - they're the same as the vanilla Angband ones. I tend to turn on the ones in the Options, so it automatically opens doors, disarms traps, picks up objects (autodestroying worthless ones is a damn good idea) etc.
EDIT: damn, sopiler's not very well hidden there. Works better with a white background...
