There are some really nice games on the list. America's Army looks stunning, especially when considering that it's a freeware game. I also like Underworld Apprentice (I'm a 2D junkie ).

I can't name any of the top of my head, but I'll look around and post here if I find anything.

I'd like to nominate Runes of Magic. It's a free, 3D MMORPG that was released in February 2009.

I found something pretty interesting: http://www.konjak.org. This guy has some really beautiful freeware games on his site.
Take a look at Legend of Princess (a game inspired by Legend of Zelda) for example; that's the game I like the most on that site. I guess it's good for a nomination.
However I'm not exactly sure if it's from 2009. The site seems to have been launched in January 2009, and there is a notice that says "site and its stuff by Joakim Sandberg 2009 (excrulimicatination)", so even though the games might not have been finished in 2009, it is possible that this is the year of the publication. Would they still be valid nominations in that case?
Anyway, it's best if we send an email to the author and find out.
EDIT: Email sent.
