Basics:

The Family Treasure is a point and click adventure game made with the AGS engine, for the AGS monthly MAGS  competition of January 2006 by Clanworks. The game was officially finished on January 23rd.

Story:

In this game you play an elderly bearded pirate, complete with hook and wooden leg called Captain Bloodhook Flamebeard. On a quest to find his grandfather's treasure, his crew mutinied and set him adrift on a raft. After 2 days of drifting, he finally gets up enough will power to try to find a way to steer his raft to a nearby island for help. By accident he ends up on the island that the treasure is buried on, but his evil nephew has beaten him to the punch, and is already searching the island. You must help Flamebeard find the treasure before his rotten nephew.

Game play:

In this game, you find a GUI similar to that of Simon the Sorcerer. The icons consist of Look, Use, Talk, and Walk. An interesting feature that I liked in this game is the ability to take off Flamebeard's hook and use it as an inventory item, or put it back on. The puzzles in the game are somewhat easy though, it won't take the seasoned adventure gamer long to figure most of them out. The music was my favorite part, as it reminded me of some of my favorite music from games like Banjo-Tooie and Monkey Island.

Characters:

The characters in this game are all about humor, but they're not that diverse. you won't be seeing anything but pirates through most of this game. There are also a few references to Monkey Island in the game.

Graphics:

The graphics in the game are quite well done, they bring out the mood of the game perfectly, and are reminiscent of games like Day of the Tentacle and Sam and Max Hit the Road.

Overall:

I found this game very entertaining and I find the replayability factor in it to be quite high. I give this game a 4.5 out of 5. It is not very original, but it does well on its own, and I recommend it to any fan of games like Monkey Island.
